Iaido (e-eye-doe) Iaido is
the way of the sword Nihoro-To. In this class, you will study the sword
as a work of art and its significance in Japanese culture, as well as
the strategies used in battle by the Samurai warriors of Japan. Bokken
or wooden swords are used to practice and develop skills. The Katana (live
blade) will be utlized at advanced levels to perform Tameshigiri (cutting.)
Iaido is the art of using the Samurai sword. An essential
part of training is the use of realistic practice (Kumitachi) and test
cutting (Tameshigiri) Iaido students are exposed to the history of the
Sumaurai and the sword, proper handling of the sword and the care and
cleaning of the blade.
Note: this class is available to students 12 years and
older only.
